The Sulzer Group plays a vital role in supporting recovery and response efforts for communities affected by the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, the largest wildfire in New Mexico’s history.

Following the devastating Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire in 2022—which burned over 340,000 acres across northern New Mexico—the Sulzer Group is engaged to assist local and state government agencies as they navigate the complex recovery landscape. Our team provides end-to-end disaster recovery support, including:

  • FEMA Public Assistance (PA) and Individual Assistance (IA) Guidance
We are helping local and state government agencies document damages, prepare funding requests, and manage FEMA’s rigorous reimbursement process.
  • Grant and Program Management
Sulzer is guiding state officials through federal and state grant compliance, including Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding strategies.
  • Damage Assessments and Documentation
Our field teams are supporting the identification, cataloging, and validation of damage to public infrastructure, schools, utilities, and community facilities.
  • Capacity Building and Technical Assistance
We are providing staffing support, process development, and long-term recovery planning for under-resourced agencies, ensuring they had the capacity to manage recovery while continuing day-to-day operations.
  • Community Engagement and Communication Support
Sulzer is helping state officials engage with residents, coordinate with FEMA, and communicate their recovery timelines clearly and effectively.
  • Water Treatment
We provide emergency delivery of potable water during crisis events and deliver ongoing project, compliance, and operational support to ensure water treatment facilities remain safe, reliable, and fully functional.
Progress Update - Bridge Construction 05/27/2025 We’re proud to share recent progress from San Miguel County, New Mexico, where the Sulzer Group is supporting vital recovery efforts after severe flooding washed out the bridge at County Road A3 in Sapello.

This weekend, our team completed drivable road access and oversaw the installation of a temporary Acrow metal bridge—reconnecting residents to essential services and restoring access for emergency response. We’re deeply grateful to our partners at CF Padilla Construction, Magnum Construction, and Acrow for their outstanding collaboration.

But this bridge is just one example of what we do.

At The Sulzer Group, we support municipalities, counties, cities, and states through every stage of disaster recovery and infrastructure rebuilding—from start to finish. We help our clients identify funding opportunities, navigate and manage complex federal grants, oversee construction and project execution, and ensure compliance through final closeout. We’re a true one-stop shop.

With nearly two decades of experience and a proven track record nationwide, the Sulzer Group offers comprehensive, efficient, and responsive support—delivering peace of mind and powerful results for the public sector.
